After Your Exchange

Stay in touch!

Even after you return home, you’ll always be a Golden Panther and an important part of the FIU family! Please stay in touch—we would love to know how you’re doing and show you what’s happening here at FIU!

Transcripts

After final grades are posted, the Office of Education Abroad (OEA) will request one official transcript and send it to your home institution (for free!).

If you need additional official transcripts, you can order them through myFIU at any time for a fee.

Note:Official transcripts will not be released if the student has a University financial liability of $500 or more or a defaulted student loan. Other holds may also prevent the release of official transcripts.

Important departure procedures and documents

All exchange students must attend a farewell meeting with the OEA. The date and time will be set after your arrival at FIU. At this meeting, you’ll receive important instructions and documents for departure.

One of those important documents is Tax Form 8843. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires anyone who has been in the U.S. for an extended period of time to complete and mail Tax Form 8843. You will get more instructions at the farewell meeting. Don’t worry—filing this form does not mean you are required to pay taxes to the U.S. government.

Be sure to reconcile all financial and conduct matters at FIU by the end of your exchange! If there are any outstanding holds on your account after your departure, we will not be able to send your transcript to your home university.

Issues and concerns

If any academic issues or concerns arrive after your exchange term, please contact FIU Office of Education Abroad at edabroad@fiu.edu

We hope your exchange term at FIU was memorable! Come back and visit anytime.
