Register / Other FIU Experiences

At FIU, providing our students with a Worlds Ahead experience while preparing them for the global market is one of our top priorities. As such, numerous FIU Panthers partake in other educational experiences abroad that may be facilitated by other offices/departments on campus. While those offerings may not stem form the Office of Education Abroad, we are here to help with the process of preparing for those experiences. Thank you for making FIU a true global institution!

FIU really cares about your health and safety abroad. For this reason, there are some processes that anyone who joins any of the international options below will have to follow. Failure to follow these steps may impact your safety or health abroad should any incident happen while you are traveling. We hope to see you in our office!

This can be any international competition, international conference, international trip/experience that a faculty member or a college/department organizes to take students abroad on a non-credit project that generally will have a service purpose through a local, international, or government organization. See Coordinator Instructions for more information.

Alternative Breaks

Alternative Breaks is managed by the Center for Leadership and Service, and it offers students the opportunity to travel during Spring and winter break to perform volunteer work. Each trip has a focus on a particular social issue. Alternative Breaks (aB) is FIU’s largest, award-winning service learning program that allows students to experience diverse cultures and environments around the world where they can create unforgettable memories and long-term friendships.

Working in cooperation with Alternative Breaks, the Office of Education Abroad will provide students with the mandatory insurance coverage, which includes medical, political, and natural disaster evacuation; register the students with the US Department of State to help ensure their safety while abroad; meet with the students to discuss all health and safety matters on the host country prior to the student’s departure.
