Faculty-Led Programs

  • Marvels of Northern Italy

This program invites you to immerse yourself for five weeks in two distinct Italian cities—Genoa on the Ligurian coast and Trento in the Alpine north. Italy is a country of many regions with extraordinary contrasts in geography, culture and identity.  Liguria and Trentino/South Tyrol are two of the most distinctive. Liguria is a long, narrow, mountainous strip of land along the Mediterranean whose beautiful coastline is known as the Italian Riviera. Trentino/South Tyrol, centered on a broad river valley surrounded by spectacular Alpine peaks, is divided into two provinces, one Italian-speaking and one German-speaking. You will learn about and experience these fascinating places in a program that draws on faculty from FIU and the University of Trento for three courses on Italian food, regional history, and Italian language.
